At the beginning of the production, the three other costume assistants and I discussed with the designer, Shane Erickson, how we would approach our tasks. Shane took us through his costume designs, which were from the late 1700s. We need to construct 20 nun habits, including its wimple, tunic and scapular apron. We visited Bristol Costume Services to hire costumes for the extras, who were playing the French public. We procured the remaining costumes from WNO, Royal Shakespeare and Angels Costume Services. Costume assissting on this large production taught me about collaboration within the costume team itself, with costume services and with all other aspects of the production and performance teams. My main job, however, was to sew
the nun's habits, and through this I obtained various useful pattern cutting and sewing skills.
